Define an action and outcome
A customer might submit a request and receive its status, while an employee accepts and completes a job. Specify the start, required information, outcome and error states of that journey. Test screen order with a prototype. Add chat, loyalty points or complex profiles only when essential to that journey.
Include data and infrastructure
Apps often require a backend, APIs, account management and an operator interface. These components remain part of scope even though they are absent from store screenshots. Define minimum personal data, session storage and permissions. Declining camera or notification access should produce understandable behaviour rather than a blocked screen.
Run a controlled pilot
Choose participants and feedback channels, and test target devices and unstable connectivity. Measure progress through the core journey and errors without collecting unnecessary personal data. Before expanding scope, understand where users stop and why. Add features to address observed needs rather than fill screens.
Checklist
- Make the core action end in a clear outcome.
- Include backend and operator work.
- Test denied permissions.
- Plan pilot scenarios and feedback.
Project questions
Can the first release target one platform?
Yes, if it matches the pilot audience. Decide on a second platform from actual user needs and maintenance costs.
